GEL2530 - Intro to Field Methods

This course is an introduction to field measurements and data collection for earth scientists, examining methods and procedures in sampling, measuring, describing, mapping, and ascertaining field data. Students will be exposed to hands-on field experiences pertinent to industry and academia. College Credits: 2 Duration: 2 weekends Accomodations: none - local destinations Dates: usually during Maymester

GEL3530 - Field Geology

A field course to experience the breathtaking beauty of geologic features throughout North America. As an analytical, hands-on exploration of the geology of various regions, this trip investigates various aspects of geology all amid beautiful vistas that stretch the imagination, focusing on geologic destinations near and far, such as national parks, classic outcrops, fossil sites, quarries, and mines. College Credits: 3 Duration: 10-days Accomodations: Camping Dates: Usually last weeks in May

GEL1530 - Geo Adventures

The course runs in parallel with GEL3530 to the same destinations, but is specifically designed for non-geologist who would like to explore the same great breathtaking landscapes and vistas. College Credits: 2 Duration: 10-days Accomodations: Camping Dates: same as GEL3530

GEL440B Applied Volcanology

West Coast Volcanology Field Experience Investigation of volcanic activity both past and present in the Western United States. An integral part is hands-on field work applying theoretical knowledge to the active study of volcanic geology by visiting active and inactive volcanic zones. College Credits: 5 Duration: 2 wks field, 6 wks class Accomodations: camping w/ some motels Dates: only offered every 4yrs during Summer

The Front Range area of Colorado is an area of spectacular geology. Participants will learn about the geologic history of this part of Colorado, which includes rocks created over a span of about 1.7 billion years. This history includes Colorado's famous "disappearing" mountain ranges, evidence of ancient oceans that covered Colorado, dinosaur bones and tracks, and evidence of the rising of the modern-day Rocky Mountains. College Credits: 1 Duration: 1.5 weeks (2 pre-trip lectures, 2 days in the field, follow-up final exam) Accommodations: none - local destinations Dates: usually during Spring or Fall semester
